I
am many things, but three titles stand out above the rest: Photographer,
Wife, and Mother. I will be honest and admit, it’s a juggling
act and finding the balance is challenging. Each job requires
dedication and I’m all in.
Affection: I wouldn’t be able to be any
of the titles I am today without my husband. He is my world. The
one I share, laugh, and cry with. I am so proud of the man he
is, and it is a blessing to love him each and every day. I have
won the love of my life, and he has won my affections.
Love: Being a Mother is no small thing –
in fact, it’s the opposite of small – it’s monumentally
significant. My two boys make the #1 spot on my priorities. Being
home for my boys is just as important for me as it is for them.
Time is the most precious commodity and our most valuable asset
is ourselves. I took those things for granted until the birth
of my second son left us both fighting for our lives. I am fortunate
to be a mother, and though it is very challenging, there is one
thing that is always true for me – the immense love I have
for my boys.
Passion: When it comes to me, just me, my passion
is photography. I can’t get enough. I’m always envisioning
the world around me as editorial stills. Sometimes it’s
moments and memories I want to capture, sometimes it’s the
beauty of light falling gorgeously on someone or something. I’m
constantly evolving as an artist. Always reading and learning
what the industry is doing, and what influences are new and exciting.
My Photographer Colleagues can attest that I love to talk shop,
which is why I also teach and lecture photography to other Professional
Photographers, as well as hobbyists. I love that feeling I get
from producing that awesome image, I just have to do the happy
dance.
Since 1995 I have been a hobbyist Photographer.
My formal studies include degrees in Graphic Arts and Liberal
Arts. I worked for photography studios before having my first
child and becoming a stay at home mom. I couldn’t resist
my passion for photography or the love for my baby, so I started
Shannon Edmonds Photography in 2006. My focus is on mothers and
babies because it gives me joy to capture the beauty, strength,
and vulnerability of pregnancy as well as the sweet innocence
of newborns and children. I also freelance as a Wedding Photographer.
It is so touching to be a witness to two people celebrating their
love and commitment to one another, and capturing that relationship
through my lens is what makes me an artist and your memories live
forever.
